It started with a spreadsheet...
In 2025 I found myself searching for somewhere new to live.
It began with a spreadsheet (yes, I'm that person). I'd spend hours researching areas and even developed a very simple scoring system based on police crime data and census data.
The more data I collected, the more I realised how valuable this information could be for others facing the same challenge. That simple spreadsheet evolved into a comprehensive database, and eventually became the fully-fledged website you see today.
Mission
At Liveable, we believe choosing where to live shouldn't be based on guesswork or estate agent promises. It should be grounded in real data and genuine insights about what makes a place truly liveable.
We analyse dozens of data sources to create our liveability scores, covering everything from crime rates and school quality to green spaces and transport links. But data is only part of the story.
What makes Liveable special is our commitment to community feedback. We know that the best insights about a place come from the people who actually live there. That's why we actively seek feedback from residents to help us understand what truly makes somewhere liveable and to continuously improve our scoring system.
How We Work
Our liveability scores are built on a foundation of comprehensive data analysis. We pull information from numerous official sources including:
- Office for National Statistics census data
- Police crime statistics
- Ofsted school ratings and performance data
- Transport connectivity information
- Food hygiene ratings
- Public ordnance survey data
- Housing market data
- And we're always adding more data sources...
But we don't stop at data collection. We continuously refine our algorithms based on what matters most to real people looking for real places to live. Community feedback helps us weight different factors appropriately and identify what we might be missing.
